Dining Student Assistant
Description:
PURPOSE
Provide entry-level food preparation and customer service to customers of UW Dining venues.
TYPICAL DUTIES
• Operate point of sales (POS) system; receive cash, count change, receive Husky Card and debit card payments from customers.
• Review menu and price lists; quote prices of frequently purchased items.
• Assemble, plate, package and/or serve items to customers.
• Assist customers and answer questions regarding menu items, ingredients, location of retail items, current prices, and available goods.
• Bus tables, remove garbage, and clean counters, shelves, fixtures, etc.

Desk Services Student Representative
Description:
Desk Services Representatives (DSRs) provide front desk services for student residents, HFS staff, and the UW campus community within the residence halls. Successful DSRs are detail- and service-oriented and possess the ability to understand and adhere to complex policies and procedures; accurately handle high volumes of mail and packages; correctly assign keys and building access cards; and solve problems and communicate effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Time Commitment:
DSRs typically work between 12 and 19.5 hours per week (scheduled around classes), have excellent weekend and or evening availability, and must attend mandatory training and quarterly staff meetings. Training includes mandatory online and in-person paid training sessions, in addition to on-the-job training. There is no set employment period, but ideal candidates will be hired and trained prior to the start of UW autumn classes and will be available to work during finals weeks and other break periods. DSRs in good standing have the option of continuing with Desk Services during the exciting HFS summer conference season.
Typical Work:
• Prepare room key packets; check residents into rooms and assign room keys; assign lockout keys and building access cards; assign meeting space keys to staff and guests; process room changes and residence hall checkouts. Maintain accurate key and building access card records by conducting periodic audits.
• Train on the accurate use of Desk Services systems and materials, including SharePoint, Microsoft Office, housing and package tracking databases, cash register, and other office equipment, including electronic and paper resources.
• Provide courteous and professional customer service, directions, etc. to all customers within the residence halls. Positively interact with people from diverse age groups, backgrounds, and cultures.
• Work in a team-oriented setting with other DSRs, student leads, and Desk Supervisors.
• Respond in a timely manner to requests for your quarterly and break period availability for scheduling purposes.
• Receive, process, and deliver mail and packages for residents and HFS staff. Forward or return mail and packages as needed, according to HFS and carrier guidelines.
• Review and respond to various Desk communication systems at the start of and during each shift.
• Be knowledgeable about HFS personnel and University resources to respond to questions from customers. Utilize departmental and university contact information, acting as a liaison between the customer and other appropriate offices.
• Always represent UW in a professional manner, including wearing a name badge and adhering to dress, appearance, and behavior expectations while on shift.
• Attend and participate in mandatory quarterly staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
• Abide by and uphold State, City, University, and Housing and Food Services rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
• Enrolled as an undergraduate/graduate student at UW.

Description:

Objective

Schedule

The Perks & Recreation Student Assistant is a student staff position with Housing & Food Services that is charged with the administrative functions related to the daily operations of Area 01 Community Center, Fitness Center West, The McCarty Innovation & Learning Lab, or the McMahon 8 Community Center.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Perks & Recreation Student Assistants are responsible for providing superb customer service to residents, staff, faculty, and guests. They will support operations within their respective centers by ensuring the safety of users and equipment, ensuring protocols are followed, completing equipment inventory, and assisting users of the space. Additionally, the Student Assistants will be responsible for following protocol for managing sales through a point of sale system system and proper credentials for user access through an access system.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The Perks & Recreation Student Assistant position places significant emphasis on the growth and development of students as professionals. While the below described experience is preferred, we welcome applications from motivated individuals who may not have prior experience but are interested in working within our facilities.

FCW Instructor/ Personal Trainor
Description:

UW Housing & Food Services (HFS) is an integral partner in the University’s drive to provide vibrant student life and educational opportunities. HFS provides students with housing that meets their needs, promotes community, supports their academic success, leadership development and social connections, and facilitates campus engagement. The FCW Instructor/Personal Trainer position works in the Fitness Center West location, teaching classes weekly, walking the floor of the space and assisting in day-to-day operations which may include working at the desk. The FCW Instructor/Personal Trainer is a student staff position with Housing & Food Services that is charged with cultivating an environment encouraging individuals to develop their mind and body in a holistic manner. All applicants must be taking undergraduate or graduate classes at the University of Washington to be considered for this position. We are looking for individuals who can teach any physical fitness or mental health well-being, including but not limited to boot camps, physical fitness training, martial arts, dance, guided meditation, Zumba, yoga, barre, or any other pertinent physical activities.
LOCATION
Fitness Center West is a community-focused, interdisciplinary learning destination where the residence hall communities can exercise, engage with one another, relax, and holistically develop.
POSITION SUMMARY

The Residence Education Specialist directly supervises the FCW Instructor/Personal Trainer. Through other projects and HFS tasks, other staff members, including Residential Life Administrators and Resident Directors will exercise indirect supervision.
FCW Instructors and personal trainers will receive feedback from their supervisor on a regular basis regarding performance issues, strengths, and areas for growth. This position does not require individuals to have prior certification but it is preferred. This position cannot pay or sponsor an individual to get certification. Description:
The HFS-Student Facilities Design Assistant participates in the planning, design, development, and
coordination of Housing & Food Service projects under the direction of the Senior Facilities Design
Manager and the Director for Facilities and Capital Planning. Ideal student candidate pursuing
Architecture, Interior Design or Building Construction Degree.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in various phases of planning to design process – programming, concept, color/material
selection, specification, documentation, and installation coordination for Housing & Food Services
projects.
- Responsible for revising and updating department AutoCAD drawing files.
- Research information on LEED standards and sustainable resources and provide input and ideas
to facilities managers.
- Attend few design and construction meetings pertaining to HFS North Campus Housing
- Participate in “hands-on” labor associated with renovation projects such as field surveys,
scheduling, punch lists, data collection, furniture relocation/staging, vendor status meetings,
vendor punch list and vendor escorts.
- Maintain accurate drawings/sketches/ photos, product samples, and notes for project record
documentation.
- Communicate project status to Senior Facilities Design Manager.
- Supports other unit projects as assigned & performs related duties to your position.
WORKING CONDITIONS

POSITION SUMMARY
The Wood & Machine Shop Area Tech is responsible for contributing to positive working relationships including, but not limited to:
? Partner with staff to support the goals of Housing & Food Services, the Residential Life Program, and the College of Engineering.
? Collaborate with the Workshop Coordinator, Maintenance Technicians, and Workshop Instructors to design and deliver engaging, high-quality workshop curriculum.

Programming:
The Wood & Machine Shop Tech assists with the activation of the makerspaces by completing the following tasks:
? Regularly teaching workshops in each makerspace that engage a broad range of students with diverse interests and levels of experience in wood and machine shop practices.
? Training Maintenance Techs and Desk Staff on basic equipment care, troubleshooting, and routine upkeep of Wood & Machine Shop tools.
? Actively participating in, and encouraging others to join, Area 01, The MILL, and The 8 programs, activities, and community events.
? Demonstrating strong knowledge of makerspace resources and designing programs that maximize the creative and educational potential of the tools, equipment, and space.
Administrative:
The Wood & Machine Shop Area Tech is responsible for the following operational and administrative duties:
? Perform regular preventative maintenance on all Wood & Machine Shop equipment.
? Troubleshoot and research solutions for equipment issues; complete repairs when possible.
? Maintain accurate inventory of Wood & Machine Shop tools, equipment, and resources across all spaces.
? Submit requests for materials, parts, or repairs as needed to ensure safe and effective operations.
? Support Admin Coordinators with required paperwork and reporting, including completing a full audit of The 8’s Wood & Machine Shop equipment and supplies each quarter.
? Report and track maintenance needs; follow up to ensure timely resolution.
? Research, design, and help implement safety protocols and equipment training materials.
Assist with general upkeep of equipment; build knowledge and expertise in machine operations, functionality, and basic repair.
? Foster positive partnerships with students, faculty, staff, and community members to strengthen the makerspace community.
REPORTS TO
The Wood & Machine Shop Area Tech reports directly to the Residence Education Specialist – Tech. Indirect supervision may be provided through projects and tasks assigned by other Housing & Food Services staff, including Residential Life Administrators, Administrative Student Coordinators, and Resident Directors. The Area Tech will receive regular feedback from their direct supervisor, including guidance on performance, recognition of strengths, and support for professional growth. Performance will be evaluated based on quality of workshop instruction, equipment upkeep, collaboration with staff, and contributions to team goals.

Summer Student Conference Assistant
Description:
PURPOSE
Assist HFS Conference Services staff and unit leadership with the coordination and administration of conference housing, dining, meeting space, and registration services, providing operational support for various internal and external customers, including HFS residents, HFS staff, registered student organizations (RSO), UW departments, Off-campus organizations, and the public.
WORK SCHEDULE
• Academic Year (Autumn/Winter/Spring Quarters): Part-time between 6 and 19.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with occasional nights and weekends
• Summer Conference Season (mid-June through mid-September): Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with occasional overtime on nights and weekends. Due to workload and scheduling requirements, enrollment in summer classes is not permitted.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Under general or direct supervision, provide clerical support to Conference Coordinators and unit leadership, assisting clients and guests by resolving problems, conducting tours, giving directions, and explaining policies, procedures, eligibility requirements, rates, and meal plans
• Support occasional on-site check-ins and check-outs as needed
• Create and distribute event-related materials such as desk packets, signs, maps, and flyers
• Facilitate client and guest access to HFS facilities and meeting spaces, including Wi-Fi access
• Process, verify, and confirm housing and meeting space reservations submitted via phone, email, or online forms; refer inquiries to appropriate supervisor or campus resource
• Review and audit meeting space Outlook calendars and door programming to ensure accuracy across displays and systems
• Enter and prepare billing information using various software platforms; submit billing to HFS Financial Services for processing and revenue reconciliation
• Coordinate and conduct room set-ups and restoration, including creating diagrams, coordinating with HFS facilities staff, and light incidental cleaning when necessary
• Conduct regular space readiness audits, verifying prior to events that rooms are unlocked, cleaned, and set to client specifications; check post-event conditions, document damages or issues, and prepare spaces for the next reservation
• Set up and provide operational support for audiovisual equipment as needed
• Conduct inventory labeling, tracking, and auditing; make deliveries and pickups to/from regional conference desks on campus

Frost Bite Student Coordinator
Description:
Perks & Recreation Frost Bite Student Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Frost Bite Student Coordinator for the Perks & Recreation team is a student staff position within the
University of Washington (UW) Seattle campus, Housing and Food Services - Residential Life department.
Frost Bite is a student volunteer-run ice cream shop in Spratlen Hall that serves UW students and
contributes to a vibrant on-campus community. Under supervisory support from the Amenities
Coordinator, the Frost Bite Student Coordinator plays a key leadership role in supporting academic year
operations. The Frost Bite Student Coordinator provides essential support to the Perks & Recreation team
by managing daily shop operations, coordinating inventory and ordering, and fostering a welcoming,
student-centered environment that promotes collaboration, community building, and positive
engagement among Frost Bite volunteers and the general UW student population.
POSITION TIMELINE:
This position fully begins in Autumn 2026 and continues through the full 2026–2027 academic year. If the
selected hire remains as a UW student that meets the credit requirements and wishes to continue into the
following academic year, they may do so. Training will begin shortly after the offer is extended in Spring
2026.
Availability is required for the Perks & Recreation Coordinators Training and the All-Staff Training during
the first two weeks of September 2026. Perks & Recreation also hosts two mid-quarter trainings each
academic year, and participation is highly encouraged.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Recruit, onboard, train, and schedule volunteers to support daily operations.
• Order and pick up supplies while maintaining procedures that keep the shop running
smoothly.
• Uphold a clean, organized, and welcoming environment within the shop.
• Work 0.5-1 hour on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday mornings (between 9 AM to 11 AM) at least
twice per week for ice cream pick up.

• Meet 1-1 with the Amenities Coordinator for at least 30 minutes on a regular basis.

• Support Perks & Recreation team initiatives and broader HFS projects as needed.

emergencies and relating tasks.

• Must be a matriculated University of Washington student taking at least 6
undergraduate credits or 4 graduate credits.
• Available to work 0.5-1 hour on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday mornings (between 9

The Perks & Rec Tech in Training in Training supports Housing & Food Services makerspaces, including The MILL, The 8, and Area 01. In this role, students learn and perform basic maintenance on makerspace equipment such as sewing machines, 3D printers, and laser cutters. They also develop customer service skills by learning HFS policies and procedures, supporting workshops, and assisting users with projects.
This position is ideal for students with experience or strong interest in maker technologies, including 3D printing, laser cutting, sewing, vinyl printing, woodworking, metalwork, embroidery, ceramics, and related disciplines. Some experience is required, but students with developing skills and strong motivation to learn are encouraged to apply.
Upon completion of training, employees are eligible for promotion to the Perks & Rec Tech Position.

Event Coordinator - Black Affinity Housing
Description:
Title: Event Coordinator, Black Affinity Housing
Description: The Event Coordinator, Black Affinity Housing (BAH) reports directly to the Specialist for Equity & Engagement and supports the planning, execution, and promotion of community-centered programming. This role will focus on developing meaningful events that foster connection, celebrate culture, and enhance the residential experience for students in Black Affinity Housing centered in its mission, pillars, and goals.
The event coordinator will stay informed about the University of Washington and local events and promote relevant opportunities to the BAH community through various means of marketing and promotion. This position is ideal for a student with strong organizational skills, a passion for inclusive programming, and a commitment to support Black Affinity Housing at UW.
Note: Event Coordinator position is for August 2026 - June 2027 with an hourly rate of $21.30/hour. Application, interviews, and selection will take place in April and May. Event Coordinator has the opportunity to live on the Black Affinity Housing floor in Lander Hall in a single room if desired. However, this room is not a part of the compensation package for the position, and the student will be responsible for payment. If residing on the floor, Event Coordinator is required to complete the BAH Commitment Form.
Typical Work:
Event Planning and Implementation
- Assist with planning and implementing 2-3 events per quarter in collaboration with the Specialist for Equity and Engagement, campus partners, and local groups
- Assist with planning BAH Welcome Event and End of Year Event
- Plan and assist with facilitating community feedback sessions
- Develop shopping lists and assist with delivery of supplies to event locations
- Assist with setup and teardown for BAH-sponsored events

Promotion and Communication
- Create and/or review various print and digital materials intended to advertise, promote, and educate within the Black Affinity Housing community

The Marketing Insights Assistant supports the development of a more data-informed marketing practice by improving how we collect, track, and use performance data across digital channels. This role helps transition the team from manual reporting to more automated, scalable insights that inform decision-making across social media, email, and web experiences.
This is an evolving role designed for a curious, analytical student interested in marketing analytics, data systems, and digital measurement. The position offers hands-on experience building foundational skills in data pipelines, web analytics, and reporting.

Position Overview
- We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Website Marketing Assistant to support our digital marketing efforts. This part-time role focuses primarily on managing and optimizing our online presence, with an emphasis on Google Business Profile (GBP) claiming, updating, maintenance, and visual content creation.
Responsibilities
- Create and update a spreadsheet of HFS owned Google Business Profiles. Share the spreadsheet with stakeholders. [LB2.1]
- Claim and verify Google Business Profiles across multiple locations.
- Update and maintain accurate business information, including hours, contact details, photos, and service descriptions within Google environment.
- Capture and upload photos and short-form videos that meet Google Business Profile content guidelines and best practices.
- Monitor customer reviews on Google Business Profiles and draft responses for HFS stakeholders to approve.
- Identify and resolve duplicate or incorrect listings.
- Track profile performance using Google Business insights and reporting tools.
- Support broader website and digital marketing tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with Google Business Profile or similar platforms (Google My Business experience a plus).
- Ability to shoot high-quality photos and videos using a personal smartphone or device, meeting Google's recommended specifications:
? Video: minimum 720p resolution, well-lit, stabilized, and under 30 seconds
? Photos: clear, in-focus, and accurately representing the business
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Basic understanding of SEO and digital marketing principles.
